Ballin'

So as mentioned, despite all the problems associated with going to the ball, here and here I did actually make it and below are some of the photos from the night.

This is me when I arrived at the hotel I have to admit my make up was a tad bit too strong, that was my mom and my sisters idea, they wanted to make me look older... But personally I don't think heavy make up on a young face is the best way to achieve that...

Once I found Nancy my room buddie for the night we headed to the bar and met Nicole one of our classmates, I think at this early stage she was already a bit drunk...  Me and Nancy were very careful to pace ourselves and Nancy started off with a glass of water lol and I had a 7UP could we be any wilder lol!!!

 Then after we managed to get our drinks there was a huge queue at the bar, we were all told to go down to the dinning area, we were a bit unlucky or some people might say blessed, our table consisted of 8 men plus me and Nancy

I had one embarrassing moment at the ball, but I just can't bear the divulge any details about it at the moment... maybe I will revisit it in a later post but for now here is the picture that caused the embarrassment

The theme of the Ball was suposed to be 1920's but from everyones outfits you would never of guessed it lol. There was one photo booth at the ball and we had a chance to dress up in 1920's style

What do you have Toulouse?

Normally Friday is my favorite day for classes despite the fact I have to get up extra early, usually 8.45 in order to catch the bus at 9.15 however today I had to get up even earlier than usual, 8.15 to catch the bus at 8.45 because I wanted to go to a talk on a Dual Masters Degree program in Toulouse, France. 

So I rushed out of the apartment determined not to be late for the 10.00 talk and arrived at almost 9.15. So there was absolutely no chance that I would be late, when I got to the classroom there was no one there...

I sat down and then 2 Chinese girls came in and looked at me curiously and asked "Do you have a class now?" No I'm here for a talk... "oh we are as well!!" 5 minutes nobody else had turned up not even the speaker, I thought we must be in the wrong room.... Then a Chinese guy came in and asked "Is there a talk? then he sat down then another guy came in a french guy from Toulouse! He wanted to go on an exchange program back to Toulouse?? Ireland obviously wasn't meeting his expectations...

Then at 10.15 my program coordinator came in and said "The speaker is delayed and will be here in 3 minutes... so we waited and waited and still no speaker and no other students... Then the program coordinator came back and said we have to move to another classroom... The talk started at 10.30 just as my favorite class Global Competitive strategies was supposed to start :(

This is ireland nothing ever runs on time... but I think it was time well spent. The Dual Degree sounds very attractive but is also rather pricey. 8000 euro tuition fees, 350-500 euro per month for rent and maybe 300 more for food and going out...

The lady giving the speech explained to us, that in France a masters degree usually takes 2 years... so If we go over to France we are entering the second year of a masters program. which consists of 6 months of classes and a compulsory 6 month paid internship then you graduate 1 and a half years later, with a french Masters...

In order to get a chance to do this Dual Masters you have to fill out an application form online and then attend an interview and fingers crossed you get it. I haven't talked to my parents yet... so I have to wait and see.... Because I have never lived overseas alone before and I have never done an Erasmus this sounds really interesting to me.

Perhaps I am super stingy and was expecting to much, or perhaps i misinterpreted our friendship, but nonetheless I felt a little disappointed and shocked.

I mentioned before I have several Chinese friends in College some are just acquaintances and some are closer than others. But anyway for the most part I usually get along pretty well with them, except for one, (Lets call her Bella) who even from the first day she met me, It seemed like she didn't like me for no apparent reason.

Actually the feeling was mutual, from the first minute i met Bella, I knew she was rather calculative as she always chose the smartest students in the class to talk to and try to get close to...  Obviously I wasn't considered smart enough to be her friend lol!

Midway through last semester Bella asked a friend of mine, Nancy can she join our project group, My gut instinct straight away was i didn't want her in our project group so i said a few polite excuses why i didn't think it would be a good idea to let her join... Such as we already have 4 members... but in the end Bella had to be in our group because there was no other group for her to join. But  perhaps my excuses about not wanting her to join got back to her and reinforced her disliking of me.

If it did she never let on and we got along quite amicably although she didn't do anything in terms of our report and was a real "Social loafer" and just rode along like a passenger and the only task assigned to her was to print out the report and hand it in to the office (in the other campus about a 20 minute bus ride away). She didn't even do that she shifted the task to another student who wasn't even in our group to hand it in. I was really annoyed by this and had to hold my tongue. I had said if nobody wants to hand it in I would do it. But I just let it be and never mentioned it.

However I saw a new side of her this semester, This semester I chose Project Management for my elective and my friend Nancy suggested i could ask Bella for a lend of her Project Management book, I knew it was a bit tactless to ask her but i thought in the end after doing the project together we had ended on good terms. So I asked her last week and she said sure no problem,

However obviously after having a week to think about she had time to think about it, and last night when I text her could she bring in the book today, her reply was "actually you can buy it from me....." Then i told another friend this and they're reply was, "Yea i was kinda shocked when you told me Bella said she would lend you the book, I didn't think she was that kind...."
