10 Most popular Conception myths BUSTED

10 Most popular Conception myths BUSTED

Myth number 1: there are “safe” days

Become pregnant at any day, even during menstruation. Of course, on certain days of the probability of conception increased, however, to calculate the days with low probability of conception is not so easy, to the same “low” – does not mean “zero”. This explains such a high percentage of unwanted pregnancies that occurred in “safe” days.

Myth number 2: a child’s sex “responsible” woman

In some countries, the “blame” for the birth of the child “wrong s*x” is still on women. However, this prejudice has under a scientific basis: it is proved that the s*x of the child meets the male chromosome. Accordingly, the men “bought” the wife of a boy or girl, is to understand the futility of such requests. The fact that the s*x of a child is determined by a set of s*x chromosomes, which are formed when a sperm fertilize an egg. Female chromosome – X always, the male chromosome (“carrier” which is the sperm) can be X, and Y. That is, if the egg fertilize sperm X – a girl, if Y – a boy.

Myth number 3: if after s*x to take a pose “Birches” seriously increase the likelihood of conception

In this statement there is a small element of truth: it is possible, the adoption of this position will facilitate the path to some sperm. Overall, however, like bigotry, rather, is not justified: the fact that unprotected s*xual intercourse in the vagina gets several million sperm cells, so the “catch” some “fugitives” simply makes no sense.

Myth number 4: if a couple seeks rather to conceive a child, you need as often as possible to have romance

The full maturation of sperm occurs within approximately 48 hours. With frequent attempts of conception (1-2 times per day) sperm simply do not have time to mature, and therefore the chances of fertilization are not great. In this case the highest probability of conception was observed only in a few specific days during the month: the day of ovulation itself, as well as 1-2 days before and 1-2 days after ovulation (in some cases conception is also quite likely for 5-7 days before ovulation). In the remaining days of the month to conceive a baby’s chances are much lower.

Thus, to maximize chances of success (if you’re planning a child), s*x is better to do after a 48 hour break for 1-2 days before ovulation and the day of ovulation, and then 1-2 days after ovulation. To most accurately determine the date of ovulation, you can use a special test for ovulation, for example, high-precision digital test Clearblue. This test with 99% probability to determine the increase in the hormone LH (luteinizing hormone), which occurs 24-36 hours before ovulation.

Myth number 5: coitus interruptus – a reliable method of contraception

This statement is false. According to some reports, lubrication, released during s*x (its scientific name – predsemya), also contains a number of sperm is sufficient for fertilization.

Myth number 6: to become pregnant while breastfeeding can not be

This assertion is based on the fact that at constant breastfeeding during the first months of life among women slowed recovery of the menstrual cycle. However, the first postpartum ovulation occurs before menstruation resumes, respectively, even in the period of breastfeeding is to use contraceptives.

Myth number 7: The most effective way to determine ovulation – basal body temperature measurement

Maintenance of basal body temperature chart – a rather time-consuming task and not very pleasant. While its application does not guarantee an accurate result, because body temperature can rise for many reasons in addition to ovulation (eg due to alcohol, hot drinks or restless sleep). In addition, approximately 20% of women before ovulation does not occur the temperature rise.

There is much more efficient and reliable method for calculating fertile days: the use of modern tests for ovulation. The most accurate to date (over 99% accuracy) * and comfortable (the result is displayed in a clear symbol) is a digital test for ovulation Clearblue. Using this test, you can easily calculate the time when conception is most likely.

Myth number 8: The effect of oral contraceptives persists long after it ends

It’s not as if after a 7-day break you do not start a new pack of pills, pregnancy is very likely. The fact that one of the principles of oral contraceptives is based on inhibition of ovulation, so if you check the effectiveness of their pills as a means of contraception decreases.

Myth number 9: It is impossible to become pregnant during their first sexual contact

There is a common misconception that it is impossible to become pregnant during the first s*xual contact. This is not true. It is always possible to get pregnant if you have s*x – not even the first time. If you have s*x, but do not want to get pregnant, you should choose a method of contraception that is right for you (this will help you a specialist).

Myth number 10: the greatest chance of becoming pregnant by a 14-day cycle

Not necessarily. It depends on the duration of your personal cycle and the time of ovulation. The most fertile time is the day of ovulation and the day before its onset (usually for 12-16 days before the next menstruation). But do not forget that the sperm are active within a few days, so even if you had s*x a few days before ovulation, you will still be possible to get pregnant.

Do not believe the myths! Let them be only an occasion for laughter and not a “stumbling block” in real life. Happy and healthy pregnancy, you kids!

* When using a digital-Ovulation Test Clearblue women are more likely than other tests for ovulation, get the same results as when applying to a special laboratory.
